Is there a better way to discern the boundaries of a city than watching Malroth's behavior? He is in free roam when within the city boundaries, and will "snap" to follower mode once you are outside of the city building zone. There's gotta be a better way, right? It is night, so the music doesn't help.

Most will consider it better (I do, as well), but there are probably a few things that the original does better so some will probably like the original better.

- This game is WAY more dialogue heavy, and the dialogue system itself isn't particularly good. Very hard to keep track of who is saying what at times due to the * and the lack of portraits/connecting-bubble/color differences which many dialogue heavy games use. A free camera in a dialogue heavy game in scenes with loads of people talking and no voice acting?

- The tutorial in 2 is much, much worse and dragged out than the one in 1.

- Reset progress is actually somewhat appealing. I kind of like the series of short stories and starting from the zero, as I'm a big fan of the SaGa series and the like. It didn't bother me at all in 1.

I wonder what game should I get with my other coupon though. I enjoy having my games on physical, but I dont know which one to get digital and which physical from maybe Fire Embem Three Houses and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.

I think the Season Pass for Fire Emblem is fairly appealing, which makes the prospect of getting the base game digital more appealing. I'm less likely to sell a game if I already have $25 DLC stuck to my account.

One thing I think 1 did that I like better than 2 was rebuilding towns from the original Dragon Quest.

Although I think just making 2 into "rebuild towns, but this time they're from DQ2" would have felt too repetitive

Bought the game last night after not really thinking I would up until release. I just bought Mario Maker and Fire Emblem is coming in two weeks.

But fuck this year so I got it and I am glad I did. I bought it last night and it is now 10 AM and I just put it down.

My town leveled up all the way and I need the two last seeds to find.

Still on furrowfield, is there anything to do in that dive spot in the bog aside from getting clean water? I'm happy to find it though since I didn't care for the murky water.

The clean water is part of a story quest later. I would just dig a hole in clean dirt and leave it so you don't have to trek back later.

I agree with this. While DQBuilders 2 is mechanically better than DQbuilders 1, the approach to the campaign felt better in the first game, at least so far, I'm still in Furrowfield.

I like both approaches, but I think I prefer 2 simply because it seems as if the goals and quests in each town are far more interesting and varied (I'm still on Furrowfield as well). DQB1's approach was worrisome at first because I was like "my progress!" but once I started the second chapter, I got over it fast. It was fun to start new, and the later chapters provided some challenge by taking away precious resources you were used to having in abundance and seeing how you'd survive. What I didn't care for was there not being some kind of central hub or place that I could continue to build on that was a part of the story, and not some separate area that's basically meaningless.

So yeah... overall, this game feels like a big step forward over the first one to me. Zero weapon/tool degradation is also a HUGE plus.

Quick question, I'm at the part where you start making the river and terraforming back on your home island. Does the game eventually lead you through starting you own town, or am I on my own to start building wherever?

Question, I'm trying to build a good looking roof and love how the top dynamically changes when you build corners, but, can I put something on top of it to complete it? Like a tip? There has to be a triangular tip somewhere, no?

Apologies if this has already been asked, but how do you reuse a blueprint? I don't have the physical blueprint anymore, I already built it, I just have it in my builderpedia. Is there a way to pop the actual blueprint up again so I can use it in another location?

For some bueprints, like the bathhouse, you can press the minus button on switch (select on PS4 I guess) to make it an item you can place down. For most of the story blueprints you can't do this though.

It would work super well in a DQB3 based on the world of Dragon Quest 3. You're basically rebuilding "real world" cities (Romaly=Rome, Portuga=Portugal, etc.), so they could do a whole bunch of great themes.

Been enjoying this and I'm about to head to Khrumbul-Dun, but I've got a question for anyone else who bought the Season Pass DLC already: Can you already access it? The eshop says it won't be released until the end of the month but I bought the season pass on friday and I recieved letters that seem to correspond to each pack, I have access to Angler's Isle (Fishing quests) and Bamboo Bluffs (bamboo and other Japanese like materials) which sound like the DLC islands, and have access to some of the recipes for stuff. (Paper and the paper lantern stick out, I also got the chic swimsuit recipe after getting one during the fishing quests.) I got the letter for the modernist pack but I don't know what recipes that should include or if there should be another island for it.

My only complaint about the PS4 version is I wish there were a built in way to swap O/X and Square/Triangle I prefer the Switch controls as a result. I know I could resort to PS4 button remapping but it's annoying to have to switch it off when playing another game and also not having prompts remapped.

Oh also, the lack of Pro enhancement. Aliasing isn't bad, but it could look absolutely pristine at a higher resolution.

My only complaint.

Back to the game, my girlfriend surprised me with a copy yesterday. I didn't say anything or asked so it was a pleasant surprise. When i asked her how she knew, she noticed how much i loved the first game and pre-ordered the 2nd on Amazon

You can make a kitchen, build 6 fireplaces or how much you want and NPCs will cook around the clock.

  • #376
So, when do you start building your own city?

I'm in the Isle of Awakening, but the way this thing is structure, I can't build the way I want.

It is worth noting that for certain skills to be useable by NPCs, you have to do a quest or level your town up first. I was kind of pissed when they wouldn't plant seeds or cook for me, but those are things you unlock fairly quickly by just doing quests.

Simply building certain rooms will still automatically generate work for the NPCs, for instance I built a legacy "Pot Room" and they automatically started making pots and barrels for me.

You will unlock power smash at level 4 or 5 were you hold your hammer for few seconds then release for AOE attack that smash a big area in front of you

Loved the first game and even more impressed with this one so far. I'm nearing the end of the farming island, I think. I just got the fourth seed type (though, I actually had a few earlier than I was supposed to, but I just officially got them via the storyline).

Really love having my homey around to high five after beating a super enemy. Roofs still aren't great... I wish it incorporated some smart layer slicing the same way the old RPGs did, so the layers obstructing the player entity would peel away. I haven't messed around with first person mode yet, so maybe I should just use that more.

I ended up with four fires in a room to try and keep up with the hungry farmers and inadvertently made a kitchen before the quest to do so.

The tutorial is pretty slow, I give you that. But if you're going to mash through dialogue, you are looking at the wrong game in my opinion. Because there's quite a lot of both dialogue and story.

I can't express how much I am loving the Sim aspect of making stations and homes and just having the npcs live their lives. Also having them all cheer me on as I pet the dog brought tears of joy.

I wish MP was better/present because building and managing a village or city with friends is the next level game changer from Minecraft imo. Blending Sims and Minecraft. Fuuuck

That's cool! Builders 1 did teach me on not caring that much for story villages although that game was harsher.

Game is VERY dialog heavy (even more than Builders 1), although it's quite funny. But if you only care about building Minecraft should be your thing.

One of the biggest improvements from 1 IMO, NPCs feel more lively and have more defined routines, also helping you build and create stuff. Towns are simply more lively now.

Oh god the text in handheld mode is so small. How are there four pages of settings and not one for larger text?

And is there any option so I can use the left stick to select things in menus instead of constantly using the dpad buttons?

It's part of the reason why i just progressed the story just for the recipes. I remember feeling devastated in builders 1 when the first boss got a clean hit on my village and broke like 3 buildings. I remember i spent hours making it look nice. One thing I'm focusing on this game though are the challenges and secrets.

Please tell me we can save and share our own blueprints online?

If not, request #1 for builders 3 or DLC

Can we even make blueprints? Strange it's presented as I'm creating them, but I can't make ones from structures I've made myself?

Switch has BIG drops of you go to visit some really developed isles from the notice board. On average while playing story is 20-30fps so far.

You can't share them online, but yes, one of the builder tools you unlock by completing objectives on the Isle of Awakening lets you copy structures and place them as blueprints.

These reports of Switch performance are pretty grim. I bought a voucher for SMM2 fully expecting to use the second one on DQB2, but after what I've seen I guess I'll just get it for PS4 again.

So the game isn't separated in chapters like the first DQB right ? I just beat the first island and I'm back to the Awakening isle. Or does the chapter cut after having done everything in the Awakening isle ?

Also, I'm very bad at making roofs, any tips please D:

I really enjoy it and agree. It's really a great blend of ideas and I can't believe how hooked I am on it. Do wish multiplayer were more in depth as well.

Handheld runs much better than docked, but at the cost of battery life. Docked play on switch is quite choppy, but handheld is mostly 30 FPS. I play with the power adapter or a battery pack to mitigate.

I couldn't help but just watch in awe as all of the townsfolk built the Deitree. You're supposed to find the flower seeds but I was so impressed watching them help. I don't know why but it was incredible to me. I had to stick around and watch them every time.
